Come Away from Her, MY People

20170711_122220 (1)

I saw this BET sponsored picture as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and immediately my heart was arrested! This picture speaks volumes!! I stopped scrolling and went upstairs to start laundry but Holy Spirit wouldn’t leave me alone and He brought this scripture to mind:

Revelation 18:4-5 (NLT)

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,

“Come away from her, my people.
Do not take part in her sins,
or you will be punished with her.
For her sins are piled as high as heaven,
and God remembers her evil deeds.

God means what He says about us being Holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16).  He clearly tells us not to take part in the sins of this world! If you are are woman of God, especially a single woman of God, why oh why would you want to soak this type of behavior into your mind? If you think it doesn’t affect your thinking you’re wrong.  It’s not just entertainment either! The prince of the air knows exactly what he’s doing (Ephesians 2:2). Even if you’re not living your life as Mary Jane, taking in behaviors such as this, we can become tolerable and even accepting of this behavior. It’s exactly what the enemy wants! Look at the caption! There’s still time to become obsessed! Seriously?! We spend more time soaking in the world instead of the Word and become dumb and defenseless to the tactics of the enemy! Seriously, I can hear the enemy and see his work all in this picture.  When we say yes to God, we’ve joined the battle against the kingdom of darkness. In wars, there’s fighting going on and if you don’t know how to fight or use your weapon, then you die! The Word of God is our sword and if you don’t know what it says and warns us of, you will be taken down!

What’s so heartbreaking is what this show, this picture is portraying. She’s given her body away to someone who isn’t her husband, probably several people, guys who are very attractive, and yet she still doesn’t have what she wants! All she’s done is tie her soul to several guys and now her life is a hot mess categorized as drama and entertainment! The pain in her face says it all! If you’re searching for a Godly man and want to be in a godly relationship then why are you feeding this stuff to your spirit?! If you are a child of the living God, with His Spirit living in you and you know that He’s with you every where you go then how do you think He feels about this?! This goes for married women as well! Why do you watch this? You’re not immune to the effects of satan’s ploys just because you’ve said “I do”. Especially if you’re going through some not so pleasant issues right now in your marriage. Sisters, don’t underestimate the power that the prince of the air has as far as deception goes (Ephesians 2:2).  You’re giving him permission by agreeing with the sin that’s promoted through this show and other shows such as Scandal and Insecure! If you’re still single and wondering why you’re still only attracting a certain type of guy, then check yourself! What are you doing, how are you acting and what type of signal is your spirit sending. God warns His sons of the “strange woman” in the book of Proverbs (Proverbs 5:3-23). Are you the one He’s warning His son about? Why would any woman of God want to be Mary Jane when God has called us to be so very much more! We are His daughters! The daughters of the King, the Creator of the Universe!

Call me dramatic if you want but God is serious! The enemy is serious too! Be mindful of what you’re taking in! The Bible tells us that the enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour! (1 Peter 5:8) Keep your guards up sisters, the enemy is very crafty, look at how he deceived Eve! If what you’re watching, listening to, or the people you’re hanging around are not bringing you closer to God, then it’s time to step away! Scattered & Splattered!

Hi!

The past 2 weeks have been challenging for me.  I feel as if I’m all over the place and dealing with a ton of emotions, to-do’s, not-to-do’s, spiritual warfare, the whole shebang! While I do love the holiday season, it can be challenging for me because I’m reminded of my mom, who passed 6 years ago, and how much I miss her and my family in general.  Also, just a little worn out from the spiritual warfare that comes along with being obedient to God.  Fighting lies from the enemy and my own self sabotaging thoughts that come to mind, have to be nipped quickly and being mindful of this and taking thoughts captive can be exhausting after a while. I know that the battle is not ours but we still have to take our thoughts captive and when you’re bombarded, it’s like an intense sword fight!

Also this week I delivered some Christmas gift bags to Peace Place and doing this was awesome! I’ve always wanted to do something like this and am grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill a dream of mine! Needless to say, this week has been one filled with ups and downs and that’s why I feel so scattered and splattered!

In continuing my reading of Why Not You? by Valorie Burton, I came to a section at the end of the chapter, “Face Your Fears and Insecurities” and there’s this list of questions that are very thought-provoking.  As I read through them and started thinking about the answers, I felt myself start to slow down and really think about what’s going on and refocus on my goals and vision for myself.  I’m even going to break this down in to 2 columns: Career and Relationships, and answer the questions as they pertain to both.  SN, there may be some relationships that may need to be let go of, strengthened or pursued. So here are the questions. If you’ve been feeling a little scattered and splattered yourself, hopefully we can get back on track together!

  1. Honestly, do I really want to do this? If so, why? What’s my purpose in it?
  2. What does my inner voice-the voice of the Holy Spirit-tell me?
  3. What’s keeping me from standing up fully and confidently in this situation?
  4. What am I afraid of? (Our job is not to pretend fear doesn’t exist or to run and hide from it; our job is to be strong and courageous in unearthing the fear so we can confront and conquer it.)
  5. What doubts hinder me right now? What’s the truth about each of those doubts?
  6. Who will I need to become in order to achieve the goal or vision set before me?
  7. What will it feel like to stand fully in who I am?
  8. How do I want to feel in the situation in which I am lacking confidence?
  9. What will I have to do differently in order for success to come more easily?
  10. What opportunity for growth is before me right now?
  11. What will it take for me to embrace this opportunity for growth?

Using this list, I’m going to get myself back on track and continue to plan for great things to come in the next few weeks and in the new year! I’m also going to go and sit and stare at my vision board to help me refocus as well. Onward & Upward!

*Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.*
